Welcome

It's Out! - the WOACE Fall 2010 Brochure!

Check your mail box or check out the courses here by clicking on the Courses tab above.  We will be posting a link to a pdf copy of the brochure on this page hopefully sometime this week so you can view all the courses at once online. We will also be posting additional information related to some of the courses as soon as we can. The Fall 2010 Classes article in the News tab lists a couple of classes that were inadvertently omitted from the brochure that you will want to take a look at. We often have changes or additions during the semester that will only appear here on our website - keep checking back! And as always, let us know what you think. Your input is invaluable to us and we are always interested in any comments, suggestions or even constructive criticism. Don't be shy - you're the Community in our name and the reason we are here. This program is designed for you.

We hope to see you soon and often!

Say Hi to Betsy!

At the end of last semester, we were sad to say farewell to our daytime secretary Sandy Dodson when she retired…. And at the beginning of this semester, we are happy to say that we just recently added Betsy Brown to our staff as her replacement and she will now be the “voice & face” of WOACE during the day.

So please help us welcome Betsy who is eagerly and quickly learning all the diverse ropes of her new position. She’ll be up to speed in no time and is looking forward to meeting and assisting you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WOACE 2010 GRADUATES!

Family members, friends and supporters were on hand as Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education held its 2010 high school graduation ceremony on Monday, June 7th, in the Wells High Library Media Center. Fifteen adults graduated from the program this year, receiving a GED credential. The graduates include Eleanor M. Behan, Mehmet P. Bozdag, Bryan A. Chamberlain, Scott D. Gorman, Daniel Jones, Zak Obermeier, Chelsea M. Peters, Ryan C. Piper, Jeffery L Ramsdell, Emma B. Sanger, Bernard G. Schulz, Myles C. Spongberg, Kandis L. Tucker and Kyle E. Young.

Elaine M. Tomaszewski, Wells-Ogunquit Community School District Superintendent, was the graduation speaker. Her encouraging words to the graduates focused on “ability, attitude and accolades.”  Each student had the opportunity to address the audience when they received their GED.

Eleanor Behan and Bernard Schulz received outstanding student achievement awards for achieving a perfect score on one or more of their individual GED exams. Eight of our graduates scored in the 99th percentile for the READING TEST. This means that their scores were better than 99% of all testers nation-wide. Among those students are: Kyle Young, Chelsea Peters, Bernie Schulz, Zak Obermeier, Ryan Piper, Emma Sanger, and Eleanor Behan. Two scholarships were awarded for post-secondary education.  Mary Angelini, Evening Coordinator, presented each graduate with an organizer on behalf of the Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education program.

Superintendent Elaine M. Tomaszewski and School Committee Chair Les LaFond presented diplomas to the four graduates in attendance, including: Eleanor Behan, Mehmet Bozdag, Dan Jones and Myles Spongberg.

A reception in honor of the graduates was held in the library following the ceremony. Pictured below are:  Daniel Jones, Eleanor Behan, Myles Spongeberg and Mehmet P. Bozdag.

Congratulations and best wishes to all of this year’s graduates!
